What if a customer questions or tests you during a meeting? Maybe they don't like the final result, question your qualifications, experience, or price.

In such a situation, when our body is trying to force itself into defensive mode, it is very difficult to keep our body language under control. You cannot afford to sound or look defensive, because this will only confirm the client's assumptions.

First, express your understanding of their concerns and then present your proposal, your solution. While doing so, you need to make sure that your words are consistent with your body language.

It may be complicated, but:

Nod and tilt your head to show that you are listening.

Avoid physical barriers that may stand between you and the customer – holding a hairdryer, cup, or product in your hands.

If you must hold something in your hands, try to keep them at about waist height.

If you feel uncomfortable, you'll probably start to lift the object in your hands higher and press it closer to you, increasing the barrier and signaling your discomfort.
